The Tholos or Round Building was the headquarters
where the representatives of the presiding
tribe (prytaneis) of the Council of 500 was on duty twenty-four hours
a day where they slept and took their meals. Here is a reconstruction
of the interior. Note the couches for eating and sleeping lining
the wall of the Tholos.
