Creative Thinking at Work

(draft 31 March '02; not yet finalized by CCT and collaborating Coll. of Management faculty)

This 15 credit graduate certificate in Critical and Creative Thinking allows participants to increase their understanding of creativity, improve their skills in creative problem-solving and invention, and enhance their ability to promote these skills in others in a variety of educational settings and other workplaces. Innovative and inspiring teachers introduce intra- and inter-personal approaches for confronting problems or situations that are too ambiguous, complex, messy or impossible to be addressed directly through logical strategies. Students also learn to address the practical considerations of taking new ideas through to realization in the artistic or commercial worlds.

CCT Certificate students take CrCrTh 601 and CrCrTh 602, three other courses, and complete an exit performance, which is automatically included in CrCrTh 698 if this course is taken. Instructors of electives should be consulted about waiving prerequisites when necessary for students to complete the certificate within an annual cycle.

CCT Masters students, graduate students from other programs, advanced undergraduates, and special students are welcome to enroll in individual courses. This certificate is offered in partnership with Continuing Education
