Requirements
1.
Students will meet twice as a group on the New Caerleon sim in Second
Life, once at the beginning and once at the end of the semester.
2.
Each week students will read the assigned articles and book
chapters, and view the assigned videos, all of which can be accessed by
following the links given in the Course Session modules.
3. Each week
(except the first) students will access one or more lectures, which will be
archived as podcasts on our website. The lectures will
be
given by the instructor, but also by eight other Caerleon artists
and scholars. Students can attend the guest lectures live in
Second Life, or access them in podcast form.
4. Students will take a midterm essay exam (approximately 6 double-spaced pages) based on the readings.
5. Each weeek students will make blog entries or participate in discussions of the course material in an
electronic discussion group hosted by our Blackboard site.

Students will produce a final paper (10 to 15 double spaced pages) addressing questions in the
philosophy of art based on the course readings as well as
involving
interviews and discussions with artists on the Caerleon sims.
7.
(Optional) Students in the Boston area may speak with the instructor
about helping with an exhibition of virtual art opening on April 7 in
the UMass Boston Harbor Gallery, as well as about integrating their
participation in the exhibition with research for the final paper.
