Kreyol Syndikat
Maintenant voilà! Kreyol Syndikat qui arrive!... Parlez-vous français? Non? The French Reggae band Kreyol Syndikat has arrived! This musical synergy of the black diaspora has exploded into Kreyol Syndikat where members hail from the hot tropics of the French Caribbean as well as the West Coast of Africa. The band, now based in Paris, has released their U.S. debut entitled UNITÉ.
In keeping with the tradition of Roots Reggae with a world beat influence, the band eloquently addresses the themes of unity, fraternity, peace, love and spititual well-being. Though the songs may be sung in French creole, the vibe is universal, breaking all barriers of language, creed and color.
The band first created a buzz among the youth in France with their hard-hitting lyrics addressing issues like crime, drugs, and other social disfunctions. The more exposure the band gained in Europe while touring, the more od a demand there was for them to record. In 1993 they independently released their first recording, Roots Natty, which was a revelation to journalists and followers of Reggae music. Their constant touring has made them not only one of the tightest bands on the reggae scene but one of the most in demand.
RAS on lead vocals captures you with his melodic yet vibrant delivery. On keyboards, Ibis composes nearly all of the band's music. Dennis, Ibis's brother, controls drums. He has created a fusion between traditional and electronic drumming and taken it to a whole new level. These members make up the core of Kreyol Syndikat with perennial guest players on guitar and bass.
When you hear the effervescence and vitality of Kreyol Syndikat you will surely classify themn alongside reggae band legends like Third World and Steel Pulse. The album's grooves are fresh, the rhythms are infectious, and no matter what language, the music still translates to another great TUFF GONG artist.
