DREMMWEL, a band established in 1986, brings traditional music of Brittany to their audiences, songs and music on a multitude of instruments, the Celtic harp, violin, guitar, binnou koz, French bagpipes, flute, bombard, and diatonic accordion. Their repertoire is heavily dance music, traditional and original written in traditional style. DREMMWEL has performed at many festivals in Britain, Austria, France, Belgium, and Scotland. This will be their first tour of America. Dance instructors will lead the audience in Breton line dances through the aisles to the dance tunes at this concert.
Quand les vieux instruments à vents rencontrent les cordes civilisées, ils s'expriment sur un terrain d'entente: les musiques traditionnelles des terroirs de Haute- et Basse-Bretagne, parmi lesquelles se faufilent de récentes inspirations.
When old wind instruments meet up with civilized strings, their musical talents are on common ground: traditional music from Highland and Lowland Brittany, with occasional pieces of more contemporary inspiration.

DREMMWEL brings us the traditional music of Brittany, the Celtic area of France. Though Dremmwel has performed at many festivals in Britain, Austria, France, Belgium, Wales, and Scotland since 1986, this will be their first tour of the US. The band plays a multitude of instruments, the Celtic harp, violin, guitar, biniou koz (the high-pitched bagpipe unique to Brittany), veuze (a one-drone bagpipe found in southeastern Brittany), flute, bombarde (an oboe-like instrument with the sound of a trumpet), and diatonic accordion. Their repertoire is heavily dance music, traditional and original written in traditional style.
A dance instructor will demonstrate simple line dances and then lead the audience in a Breton line dance through the aisles to the music of the band. All who wish are invited to join in.
