Program Director
The Program Director is responsible for the overall running of the tutoring program during the academic year and for the overall running of camp during the summer.
With the Student Volunteers
Recruit student volunteers
Match student volunteers with tutees
Training and orientation of tutors (a)
Supervision, support of, and communication with tutors
Supervision and support of three student coordinators
Planning and running two retreats for staff and student leadership
Planning and running two retreats for tutors (b)
Planning and running weekly group meetings for tutors
Conducting individual meetings with each tutor twice a year (a)
With the Tutees and their Families
Recruit the tutees
Supervision of tutoring sessions
Family visits (a)
Follow-up and crisis intervention (c)
With the Staff
Run weekly staff meetings
Supervision and support of Educational Coordinator and Family Advocate.
Program Productions
Responsible for soliciting articles, gathering materials, and coordinating production of Earthen Vessels News (a newsletter to alumni and donors), Treasures in Earthen Vessels (a magazine of tutees' writing and artwork), and Eaglevision (a newsletter for tutors if tutors see the necessity of it)
Planning and running two Tutor-Tutee Days (d) Planning and running spring Community Event (a) Working with Chaplain to plan and attend 3 Mass-and-Dinners for the community of volunteer tutors.
Camp Director
The Camp Director is responsible for running two camp sessions, one for 11-12 year-olds and one for 12-14-year-olds, a leadership training week for 16-18-year-olds, and one family mini-camp session at the Earthen Vessels Camp in Granville, Vermont.
Camp Director Tasks
Recruit campers
Recruit counselors
Plan camp activities
Train counselors
Supervision and support of counselors and other staff
Management of daily camp schedule
Handling difficult behavior and disciplinary issues
Responsible for safety of all participants
Spiritual Leadership of Camp includes:
Holding vision throughout camp
Planning daily Gospel readings
Leading prayer
Planning and running special spiritual events
Camp Director may delegate the following tasks to a Co-Director or Assistant Director:
Planning and purchasing of all food and supplies
Transportation of campers and counselors
Management of physical camp facility
Chaplain
The Chaplain is part of the Chaplaincy at the Harvard-Radcliffe Catholic Student Center, and is responsible for maintaining the vision of faith-in-service and for fostering the spiritual growth of the student volunteers.
Chaplain Tasks
Plan and run bi-weekly scripture reflection meetings with tutors
Plan and run 3 Mass-and-Dinners (e)
Assist in planning and running 2 tutor retreats
Be available to meet with tutors individually for spiritual guidance
Work closely with Program Director
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Divinity, Pastoral Ministry, or Theology.
Chaplain must enjoy working with college students and have knowledge of inner city and a commitment to the expression of faith in works of service.
